The Connection Between Mental Health and Workplace Productivity
For many of us, work plays a significant role in our lives. It's where we spend a substantial portion of our time, earn our income, and often build valuable relationships. Having a fulfilling job can positively impact mental health and overall well-being. Research demonstrates a strong correlation between good mental health in the workplace and enhanced productivity. Addressing well-being at work can boost productivity by up to 12%.
Understanding Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Response involves providing initial assistance to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This training program equips employees and employers with the skills needed to respond to mental health emergencies that colleagues or employees may face. It empowers MHFRs (Mental Health First Responders) to assist individuals dealing with mental health problems, worsening existing conditions, or facing a crisis until professional help arrives.
Legislation on Mental Health in the Workplace
Employers have a legal duty to protect the physical, mental, and emotional health, safety, and welfare of their staff, as outlined in the Employment Equality Act (2015). This responsibility extends to addressing mental health in the workplace.
